Using a chainsaw can be dangerous if not handled properly, but with the right precautions and technique, it can be a useful tool for your job.
Here are some tips from our Chainsaw Trainer on How to use a Chainsaw Safely:
1.Wear Appropriate protective gear
Before using a chainsaw, make sure you arewearing the right protective gear. This includes: eye protection, ear protection, hard hat, long-sleeved shirt, gloves and chainsaw chaps/trousers or other leg protection.
Check thechainsaw for any damageor defects before using it. Make sure the chain is properly tensioned and sharp, and that the bar is securely attached.
3.Choose the right saw for the job
A smaller saw is better for smaller branches and limbs, while a larger saw is better for larger trees and logs.Choose a saw that is appropriate for the size and type of woodyou will be cutting.
4.Clear the area
Clear the area around the wood you will be cutting of any obstacles. This will helpprevent the chainsaw from getting caught and causing kickback.
5.Hold the chainsaw correctly
Hold thechainsaw with both hands, with one hand on the rear handle and the other on the front handle. Start the saw safely, cut at the correct angle and watch out for kickback.
6. Take breaks
